ABORIGINAL PROGRAM MANAGER APPOINTMENT

(Salary $80,271.00)

Applications are invited for employment of Aboriginal Program Manager of the Junior Rangers Program being conducted by the Woolkabunning Kiaka Aboriginal Corporation at Roelands Village, a First Nations farming and accommodation facility located near Bunbury in SW Western Australia. The program is being funded by the NIAA and commenced in January 2024 (2 year funded program).

A full time position is available at Level 8 – Management of the Aboriginal Communities and Organisations Award salary scale ($40.49/hr plus superannuation). Pursuant of Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984, the occupant of this position must be of Aboriginal descent.

Position description

The successful applicant will lead an experiential and culturally competent education and training junior rangers program for First Nations primary and secondary school students residing in the Bunbury Geographe region. Program activities will be aimed at improving attendance and educational outcomes of First Nation students and strengthening partnerships between participating schools and their First Nation communities. Junior Rangers from at least three different schools will be transported to Roelands Village one or two days a week where they will assist in restoring and manage bushland habitat, complete VET and pre-employment training and skills development courses and participate in a range of other activities. First Nations Elders, families, friends and other community members will assist in program delivery.

The Program Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the ranger program, ensuring contracted outcomes are achieved and expenditures are within budget. The appointee will supervise Project Mentors, work with WKAC Administration Officer to manage financial operations, arrange project meetings and take responsibility for data collection and project reporting.

Essential criteria

  • Certificate IV in Youth Work or similar qualification/experience.

  • Previous experience in working with First Nations people, in particular youth.

  • Previous experience in planning and coordinating on-Country activities.

  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills both written and verbal.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team.

  • A C Class Motor Driver’s License.

  • National Police Clearance and Working With Children Clearance.

  • Current First Aid Certificate.

Desirable criteria

  • Previous project management and staff supervision experience.
